-Remembering the times spent growing up, playing the Nes-

A video-game wizard takes a road trip from Utah to a 50,000 championship match in California in this warm-hearted family adventure. Corey (Fred Savage) sneaks his heavily traumatized brother Jimmy (Luke Edwards) out of the intitution where his stepfather has placed him, With big brother Nick (Christian Slater), their father Sam (Beau Bridges), and a greedy bounty hunter in pursuit. But they're in for a surprise when their resourceful traveling companion, Haley (Jenny Lewis), realizes that Jimmy has an uncanny knack for video games. "Christian Slater is brilliant (NOT TRUE!) and Beau Bridges gives an outstanding performance," raved L.A. Weekly's Mari Florence. "But the runaway star is Fred Savage."

Memorable quotes from the Movie: All 18 quotes were captured and recorded by Andrew Baranyi.

50,000 on Double Dragon- At the beginning of the movie, Corey (Fred Savage) notices that Jimmy got a score of 50,000 on Double Dragon

He could wax your tail- After Haley (Jenny Lewis) confronts Corey and Jimmy (Luke Edwards) in the backroom of the bus station, they get into an argument over videogames (lol).

He's a Wizard!- Watching Jimmy play Ninja Gaiden, Haley realizes that Jimmy isn't just any typical "video-head". He's a Wizard!

Great, they're salesmen!- Corey and Jimmy hustle two stereotypical salesmen playing videogames. No matter how many times I watch this scene, I just cannot contain myself.

Power Magazines- A classic Nintendo advertisement whereby Haley plugs Nintendo Power at a diner.

What is this kid, some kind of cyborg?- At a local arcade some redneck hick in the backround, watches Jimmy play F1 Race.

Lucas!- Probably one of my favorite scenes in the entire movie. I found it pretty pathetic listening to them spew out countless Nintendo plugs though:
" Pick any game you want. I'm good at all of them. I have 97 of them."- Lucas holds a case of 97 nes games in front of everyone.
"I love the poweglove. It's so bad!" After playing rad racer (yet another game licences by Nintendo at the time), Lucas celebrates with his Powerglove. note. The Powerglove does NOT make those corny button sound effects.
"Yeah well ah...Just keep your powergloves off her pal huh.". Corey protects Haley from Lucas and his "powergloves". One of the most memorable lines in the entire movie I might add.

I got the scroll weapon- Beau Bridges discovers his love for the NES as he dukes it out with Mega Turtle at the end of level 3.

I got passed the river devil- Boy that must have been difficult (lol!).Later on in the movie Sam (Beau Bridges), Corey and Jimmy's father, plugs yet another NES game. Zelda II, The Adventure of link which was released earlier that year.

Listen up fruit fly its time to get real- Theres a quote in Roger Ebert's review of this film that makes a lot of sense. "The Wizard is the kind of movie where every adult role is hapless". I have to agree with him. It's the kind of movie where the kids rule the stage. This particular quote in the movie, where Putnam (Will Seltzer), interrogates a child at a local arcade, is a perfect example.

Your so thick!- No thats NOT what she ment you dirty fuck! After Corey, Jimmy and Haley get jumped by those dumb hicks, Haley yells at Corey, just as he's about to call his "Dad". Back in the 80's, this must have been a common phrase among the rebellious teens!

We have 72 out of 97- Haley tells Corey that Jimmy knows 72 out of 97 videogames available at the time.

Nintendo Gameplay Hotline- Haley calls Rick at Nintendo Gameplay and asks him for help.

He touched my breast!- THE most memorable line from the movie. In a last gasp effort, Haley screams and yells "He touched my breast". Remember at the beginning of the movie? "I'm Haley, if you don't tell me what you're doing, I'm going to scream.". They brought that line back. note. Can you hear the sound effects from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, while the suspenseful music is playing?

Zelda!- I guess this was supposed to be the romantic part of the movie. Sitting atop Haley's trailer, Corey tries to find an analogy between her search for a home and "Zelda II". "It's not sexist! It's romatic."

Dorklips- A member from Lucas's "crew" comments on his chances in the Video Armageddon finals. I still believe Lucas was cast as a pimp in this movie.

Video Armageddon- The commentators voice at the contest

Super Mario Brothers Threeeeee- The basis behind the WHOLE film! Walking out of the theater after this movie, I can remember wanting to buy Super Mario Brother 3, the minute it came out on sale. Gosh that was a long time ago!

Soundboard(s) from the Movie: Made by Andrew Baranyi ofcourse
Jenny Lewis- If you're a fan of the "The Wizard" or the NES in general, you HAVE to check this one out. Its by far the best soundboard I have ever made. Prank phone call your best friend or possibley a nintendo game tips hotline. I know I will haha. This is the first full soundboard I've made ENTIRELY in flash. They just get better and better with me! Send me your prank phone calls in mp3 format and I'll gladly post them in the media section. 486 KB note. Make sure you maximize your browser window to reveal the whole soundboard.

Resolution:
800 X 600
1024 X 768
1152 X 864

Theme- For some reason, I just like this song. It sounds cheezy "in a good way" you know. This song plays during the scene where Corey, Jimmy and Haley ride across the United States on the back of motorcycles. You also get to see Putnam searching for Jimmy.
